The Boston Venue Unity Fund

Boston’s live music venues are closed and musicians are hurting. In an effort to help those in the Boston music community who are in need because of the pandemic, Boston Venue has set up the Boston Venue Unity Fund.

In the late ’80s, in partnership with rock and roll powerhouse WBCN, The Channel hosted a series of free lunchtime concerts featuring local and national headliners, a ‘BCN emcee, and a free lunch — a hot dog with all the fixings!

We are reprising those lunchtime mini-concerts, albeit this time in a virtual format, streaming live on Facebook.

The series, which currently has over 20K views, has so far featured Channel headliners including Jon Butcher of Jon Butcher Axis; Sal Baglio of The Stompers; Dan Zanes of The Del Fuegos; and Adam Sherman of Private Lightening.

Plus, legendary WBCN personalities including Chachi Loprete, Oedipus, Carmelita and Bradley Jay have co-hosted and led discussions after each performance.

Coming up at noon on May 29th a couple of The Fools: Mike Girard and Rich Bartlett, followed by Tom Hambridge at 1pm!

The concerts are held every Friday in May at noon on our Facebook page, and will continue through May 29th.

This will culminate with:

A weekend of music, memories and giving

On the weekend of May 29th to 31st (exactly 40 years since The Channel's opening), starting at noon each day, we'll be featuring a series of Zoom-powered, free-form performances, discussions, and a silent auction.

The silent auction will feature items donated by Channel Alumni including Woody Geissman of The Del Fuegos, Janet LaValley of Tribe, Joe Perry of Aerosmith and The Joe Perry Project, Tom Hambridge & Buddy Guy and more TBA! Bidding started Friday, May 22ndand go through May 31st, when winners will be announced. Auction is live on now!

The money collected will be pooled and distributed to participants that need the help and to Right Turn, a great nonprofit organization that assists musicians with substance abuse issues.

Boston Venue is an independent production company, relating the stories of legendary live music destinations of the ’80s and early ’90s, in and around Boston.

Season One: Boston Venue: The Channel Story Podcast’s Episode 10, the not-so-grand-finale, will be released soon.
